This is a page dedicated to the basics of the beliefs of Christianity. Now these are not denominational differences. I plan to point out what is biblically accurate and allow you to make your own decisions based on the evidence presented.
Now the term Christian is derived from the name that was applied to Jesus of Nazareth. The reason I call Jesus, Jesus of Nazareth rather than the most commonly used Jesus Christ is that Christ was not in fact Christ’s surname but merely a title.
A Christian is simply someone who simply follows the Christ. Now the word Christ in New Testament Greek is in fact “Christos” and it means the following:
Christ = “anointed”
1) Christ was the Messiah, the Son of God
2) anointed
Christianity derived out of the religion called Judaism. Jesus himself was born into a Jewish family. If you read the 1st chapter of Matthew you will see the genealogy of Jesus right up to the future husband of his mother Mary, (Joseph was not his father) if you read the first part of the gospel of Luke it will give the genealogy of Jesus right up on his mothers side.
In most cases, if you knew and respected the Jewish customs, the father’s linage would be the most important, but in this case, the Virgin Mary’s linage was most important as she was the only human to be a part of the birth of Jesus. (This will be discussed in more detail on the page entitled “The Virgin Mary”)
Jesus was born of a virgin, for the scriptural references to this please refer to Luke chapter 1 and 2. We celebrate this event with the festival called Christmas in December.
There is little mentioned of Jesus child life and we pick up his life story when he is about to start his adult ministry. Many things he did can be found in the modern day church and in some cases his life separates the belief systems of Judaism and Christianity.
Christians believe the following:
· Jesus of Nazareth was the Son of God
· Jesus was born of a Virgin
· Jesus died for all of mankinds sins
· Jesus rose again from death on the third day
· Jesus was a sinless man
· Jesus is the only way to heaven
